Chronic sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses that lasts 12 weeks or longer. It can cause ongoing congestion, facial pressure, and fatigue. At Shalaaki Eye & ENT Clinic in Bangalore, we help many patients manage and treat chronic sinusitis with a combination of diagnosis, lifestyle advice, and targeted treatment.
What are the sinuses?
The sinuses are air-filled spaces in the skull around the nose and eyes. When they become inflamed or blocked—often due to infection, allergies, or structural issues—fluid builds up and bacteria can grow, leading to sinusitis.
Common symptoms
- Nasal congestion and difficulty breathing through the nose
- Thick or discoloured nasal discharge
- Pain or pressure around the cheeks, forehead, or eyes
- Reduced sense of smell and taste
- Cough, especially at night
- Fatigue and low energy
When to see an ENT specialist
If symptoms last more than a few weeks, keep coming back, or don’t improve with over-the-counter remedies, it’s time to see an ENT. We can examine your nose and sinuses, identify causes (allergies, polyps, deviated septum, or infection), and recommend a treatment plan. This may include nasal sprays, saline rinses, allergy management, or in some cases further evaluation or referral.
Treatment options
Treatment depends on the cause. Options often include nasal corticosteroid sprays, saline irrigation, allergy control, and sometimes short courses of other medications. Lifestyle measures—such as staying hydrated, using a humidifier, and avoiding irritants—can also help. Dr. Shruthi LH and our team at Shalaaki Clinic create a personalised plan so you can breathe easier and feel better.
